It is with great sadness that we advise that Captain E T (Tommy) Denholm, OBE, DL passed away at the weekend (Saturday 18 May).
Tommy had a long standing and distinguished association with Bodmin Town Council (and the former North Cornwall District Council). He was a District and Town Councillor for many years and held the office of Mayor of Bodmin for no fewer than five terms between 1990 and 2001.
Tommy was a prominent ambassador for Bodmin, and he worked hard to foster relationships not only with other parts of the Duchy, but also further afield, with Bodmin’s twin towns in Germany and France and especially the sister city Grass Valley (California).
A proud Naval veteran, Tommy worked tirelessly with the Armed Forces charity SSAFA – a UK charity providing lifelong support to serving men and women and veterans from the British Armed Forces and their families or dependents – and took a central role in the town’s Remembrance Parade last year alongside then Mayor, Councillor Sara Kinsman.
His years of service to the Council, the town and the County will not be forgotten, and the thoughts and condolences of all Councillors and staff are with Tommy’s family and friends at this sad time.
The photo shows Tommy during the 2018 Remembrance Service at the Town War Memorial, alongside (from R-L) the Lord Lieutenant for Cornwall (Colonel Edward Bolitho), Mayor of Bodmin (Councillor Sara Kinsman) and High Sheriff (Paul Young-Jamieson), High Sheriff’s Cadet and Mayor’s Cadet.
